About
All the wood crafts have been designed, built, sanded and finished by me in my shop in Arvada, Colorado.
I'm drawn to unusual wood with lots of character. While many woodworkers shy away from cracked, stained, knotted, or warped wood, I gravitate toward it. I enjoy the challenge of discovering the best use for a particular log or piece of lumber and transforming it into something both beautiful and useful.
The vast majority of my wood comes from neighbors, friends, arborists, and a few sawmills that specialize in lumber from residential trees. Giving a second life to wood that might otherwise be discarded is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
My woodworking journey began more than 35 years ago after being inspired by Norm Abram of The New Yankee Workshop fame. Norm made everything look soooooo easy—believe me, it isn't!
I started by building furniture for our home and soon moved on to making toys for my sons, nieces, and nephews. Before long, there were so many handcrafted wooden toys around that my kids would complain, "Dad, another wooden toy?" To them, plastic toys were the special ones because they were so rare.
When I retired, woodworking evolved from a hobby into a full-time passion. Today, I continue to find joy in revealing the beauty hidden within every piece of wood and creating one-of-a-kind functional art that can be enjoyed for years to come.
